Tested Positive for Gluten Test at Home

Please rest assured that all of Spicely Organics products are Certified Gluten Free (to 10 ppm gluten or less) and are under the supervision of the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO). We test our products using GlutenTox Pro.

If you received a positive result on your Nima Sensor, here are some possible causes:

  1. Because the ingredients are dry, Nima Sensor recommends you add a few drops of water to the spices before sealing the test capsule. All dry or powdery foods, such as flours, starches and spices, test more accurately in the Nima Sensor when diluted with a few drops of water.

  2. Spices with volatile oils (listed below) can react poorly with the gluten test and result in a false positive. This also applies to Seasoning Blends that contain spices with volatile oils.
  • fennel seeds/ground (most common offender!)
  • cloves
  • anise star
  • nutmeg
  • cinnamon
  • mace

     3. Spices that are brightly colored and/or spicy (listed below) can cause false           positives. This also applies to Seasoning Blends that contain the spices               listed below.
    • smoked paprika (most common offender)
    • paprika
    • turmeric
    • cayenne pepper
    • chili crushed

    Are The Containers Safe For Food?

    We are mindful of not only the quality of our products, but what we package them in - our tins are food grade and the plastic containers (Club Size a.k.a PC1's) are BPA free.

    Where are your spices sourced from?

    We source from all over the world and it can vary from batch to batch, crop to crop. We only source from farmers who go through the rigorous +3 year process it takes a supplier to become organic certified. Therefore, all of our products have diligent supplier vetting, including 3rd party audits such as the USDA, as well as in stringent in house testing.
    We take take health and safety very seriously! Spicely Organics' products meet or exceed the USDA NOP standard. Once in our facility the product gets tested for pathogens, pesticides, and heavy metals. Finally the product gets released for commercialization if all the parameters tested are within our standards.
    If you could provide a lot # from your packaging, we'd be happy to verify where your specific came from. 

    Where are the shaker tops?

    We no longer put the shaker tops on our spices in the jar due to production efficiency, customer feedback that most consumer remove them to use measuring spoons instead, and striving to be a green company that limits wasted. We do not sell these separately. However, if you have any old jars, these are removable, washable, and reusable.

    Are Your Spice Facilities Soy / Dairy / Eggs / Peanuts / Tree nuts - Free?

    There is no soy, dairy, eggs, peanuts or tree nuts in any of our spice products. We use our own facilities and don't allow any ingredients that might contaminate our products inside.

    Do Spicely Organics Spices or Seasonings Contain Salt or Sugar?

    Spicely products don't contain any sweeteners either natural or synthetic.

    Our spices, herbs, and seasoning blends do not contain added salt, with the exceptions of Garlic Salt and Celery Salt. Spicely Organic Sumac (and blends containing Sumac) may contain traces of rock salt due to the cutting/curing process.

    All the flavor in Spicely spices, herbs, and seasoning blends comes straight from where it should: our spices.

    Please note - ORGANICMEAL does contain Sea Salt.

    Is The Weight Shown By Weight Or Volume?

    The weights displayed next to the packaging options are reflective of the volume and will vary from product to product. For example, herbs will be much lighter and therefore will have less weight, though you are still getting the same amount.

    Additionally, the weight is reflective of the product and does not include packaging.

    Items Out of Stock

    At this time, we do not have a back-ordering system in place. You may reorder out of stock items at a later date.

    Pressure Seal Information

    Occasionally, the seals on our Club Size and Jars come off; this is normal when twisting off the cap. Among others, there are a few well-known methods to apply liners on bottles and jars in the food industry.

    1. Pressure sensitive line (which you may notice a white liner under the cap)
    2. Heat seal (passing the products through a heat tunnel to apply the liner)
    3. Radiation
    We chose pressure sensitive lines for the following reasons, in spite of it not being able to create a 100% tight closure.

    1. Pressure sensitive lines are the most environmentally friendly of the three options. They require less use of energy to make.
    2. Unlike pressure sensitive liners, heat or radiation may change the property of the spices and incur additional production costs—as a result, increases to customers’ price.
    3. Organics are limited to exposure. We cannot irradiate according to USDA NOP regulations.
    Please note that we are aggressively researching to get help from industry professional for a new, safe, environment friendly solution to apply the closure.

    We have a large variety of spices and seasonings available through various channels to purchase. If the product you are looking for is not on our website, you may purchase third party through Amazon or a retail store.

    Are Spicely Organics Spices, Herbs & Seasoning Blends Gluten-Free?

    Yes! We use a dedicated, gluten-free facility and our products are certified gluten-free by the GIG. Our spices not only contain no gluten, but also never come in contact with any other ingredients that do. Now that's peace of mind.

    Is your Pure Almond Extract Allergen-free?

    Yes. Our Pure Organic Almond Extract is allergen-free. They are not derived from nuts. The flavor is extracted from oil of bitter almond, which is derived from stone fruit pits. It is safe for anyone with a nut allergy. Our facilities do not contain any nut or gluten products. We are an allergen-free facility, and make food quality and safety our first priority.

    Do You Carry Organic Salt?

    Salt is not actually an agricultural product and therefore cannot be certified organic (or else we would!)

    Do You Have Organic Cream of Tartar?

    Cream of tartar is not actually an agricultural product and therefore cannot be certified organic, though ours is the next best thing and is 100% Potassium Bitartrate.

    What Anise Star do you carry?

    We carry Illicium Verum, which is often referred to as Chinese star anise, although ours mostly comes from Vietnam. 

    Does Organic Really Matter For Something As Small As Spices?

    The process of drying and grinding spices is a concentration of fresh produce, so we don't think of them as small at all! Since we use the finest ingredients, all the things you don't want, like pesticides and other chemicals, aren't present. With Spicely USDA Certified Organic spices, you get all of the flavor, and none of the bad stuff.

    How potent is your Vanilla Extract (1, 2, 3, 4 fold)?

    Our vanilla extract is 1 fold in potency.

    What is The Heat Index Of Your Cayenne?

    This varies slightly from lot to lot, though typically is between 30-40,000 Skoville Heat Units (SHU)

    What Is The Shelf Life of Spices, Herbs and Seasonings?

    The shelf life for these products are typically 36 months (3 years) from when they are packaged - which is reflected on the date printed on each product. This is an estimated time frame, as spices generally do not go bad if they are stored properly - a cool, dry place is ideal. They may lose their potency slightly, but are safe to consume. Also to be noted as a general rule of thumb is that whole spices typically last longer than ground.

    We do not use any preservatives, nor do we use irradiation to extend the shelf life.

    All natural is the way we like it!

    What Percent Curcumin is in Your Organic Turmeric?

    Curcumin is a curcuminoid, which are natural phenols that are responsible for the yellow color of turmeric and its health benefits. Though it is predominately used as a spice in the US, turmeric is used to treat many health conditions. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and perhaps even anticancer properties.

    Our Organic Turmeric is 2-3% Curcumin.

    Where Do Your Spices & Herbs Come From?

    As a leader in organics, we import the majority of our spices come from around the World. We partner with the best farmers in India, Guatemala, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Germany, China and Peru. All of seasonings/blends are manufactured in-house, right here in the US.

    Why does my spice taste/look/smell different?

    Consumable plants - spices, herbs, produce etc. - can have natural variances in flavor aroma texture grinding result color taste moisture level heat etc from batch to batch, crop to crop. We do taste tests on our lots to make sure they meet our high quality standards and fall within normal variances.

    For Spicely Organics Smoked Paprika, since the smoking process is all natural (actually smoked over wood) and nothing is added to the product itself (i.e. liquid smoke,etc), levels of smokiness may differ from other brands of smoked paprika and even between our batches.

    Why Is My Organic Onion or Organic Garlic Clumping Up?

    It is not old - This is a common occurrence with our onion or garlic. No additives, anti-caking agents and a low moisture content are all factors that lead to this type of clumping, and it is simply the nature of the product.

    Can I Change My Order After I Have Checked Out?

    Sadly, due to the credit card processing and security measures that we use, we are not able to add items to orders once they are submitted. We may be able to cancel an item/order, or substitute items of equal value if the order has not yet reached our fulfillment team - our process to fill orders moves extremely quickly - so the time window for changes or cancellations is very short.

    Refunds & Returns for Spicely.com purchases

    Please make sure your order is accurate before finalizing. Spicely Organics will only take returns/issue refunds on defective items and only when the return is pre-approved. Returns sent without pre-approval will not be processed.
