Organic Cajun Seasoning
Cajun seasoning is a mixture of all the spices that make up the robust flavor that has come to be associated with Cajun cuisine. The spice mix is a beautiful medley of all the concentrated flavors that make food worth cooking.
Ingredients: Organic Paprika, Organic Black Pepper, Organic Garlic Granulates, Organic Cumin, Organic Oregano, Organic Onion Granulates, and Organic Cayenne Pepper.
Using at Home
Any soup or stew will benefit from this powerhouse of flavor.
For a traditional approach use it in gumbos or jambalayas.
Another option is to blacken fish or meat by rubbing it with oil and Cajun spice and pan-frying it.
If you're the creative type embrace the blend's flexibility by mixing a pinch into your own favorite dish to give it a Cajun kick. Cajun style mac & cheese perhaps?
If you are more of a culinary purist try turning your simple side of rice into a pot of gumbo with a fat pinch of this spice mix to give it that pungent spicy taste.Benefits
Cajun cuisine has its own unique combination of exotic and delicious flavors and cooking methods that create mouth-watering dishes.
Using Cajun spice at home is extremely flexible and most people find that it melds well into the majority of savory dishes.History
The traditional flavor of Cajun dishes started with the Holy Trinity (a combination of finely chopped peppers, onions, and celery sautéed in fat) or the Holy Trinity and the Pope (which adds garlic). Over time more flavors were added to the mix, and eventually a dried and ground version came about that allowed for Cajun flavors to be added with a simple pinch.
It all started in 1775 when the Arcadian people (French descendents) living in Canada got the boot from the British, who sent these refugees to Louisiana.
Upon arrival, the Arcadians, shocked by the extreme climate change, realized that the food they were used to eating was no longer available. They decided to embraced the challenge and created their own cuisine based on the area's unique local supply of edible goodies.
This resulted in a fusion food, the mixing of Arcadian preparation styles (which was already a fusion of French preparation styles) with Creole ingredients forming the now famous robustly delicious dishes known today as Cajun food.
