Organic Anise Star Pods
What is Anise Star: sometimes referred to as star anise, is a star-shaped dark brown pod with eight segments. It is used in Chinese, Indian, and Indonesian cuisine and is a common ingredient in garam masala and Chinese five spice blends. We carry Illicium Verum, which is often referred to as Chinese star anise, although ours mostly comes from Vietnam.

Anise star is a great addition to any mulling spice blend and can add a burst of flavor to any soup.
To use in a broth, add 1-2 anise stars to 4 cups of broth to bring out a herbal flavor.
Anise star is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to potentially aid in digestion and to boost the immune system.
Anise star has been used as a spice and as medicine for over 3,000 years and, similarly to fennel, is known for its anise-like flavor.

Unless otherwise indicated, products are sold by weight and not by volume.
Some products may appear "less full" due to a variety of factors such as the density of the spice, contents settling during shipment, etc.
Our inner safety seals are pressure sealed and it is normal when twisting off the cap that the seal may come off, come loose, and/or tear - so long as none of the contents spill out, the product is safe to consume.
