Saffron threads are the three orange stigma at the center of a flower on the purple crocus plant. Since each thread must be hand-picked, saffron is the most expensive spice per ounce. One or two strands, carefully steeped can flavor an entire pot of rice with a dry floral aroma and add a rich yellow shade.
To make saffron rice, use 1 thread per 2 cups of rice dry.
Saffron might help with blood circulation and aid in digestion.
