Our Organic Whole Marjoram has sweet pine and citrus flavors, along with an aromatic, fresh scent. It is considered to be a subtler substitute for oregano, more easily integrating the desired pepper-like notes without the often-overpowering effect of oregano. Despite being known in some places as ‰Û÷sweet marjoram‰۪ it is mainly used in savory dishes. Our all-natural marjoram has been directly sourced at its peak freshness to maximize its flavor and fragrance.

Marjoram is native to Turkey, but can be found all over the Mediterranean region. It has a rich history, from being used in ancient Egyptian embalming to being used and written about by Hippocrates in his many medical treatises. It is believed that if you find marjoram growing on a grave, the soul of the departed has found happiness. Historically, marjoram has been used to create ‰Û÷swete waters‰۪ for cleaning and bathing and satchels of the herb were used for their pleasant scent. It was also a symbol of peace in ancient Greece, being woven into wreaths and garlands to promote happiness and harmony.

Marjoram has high levels of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. It also has very high levels of beta-carotene and vitamin A, which is essential for healthy eyesight. Marjoram is also suggested to help protect against Alzheimer‰۪s disease due to its exceptional amount of vitamin K and it is also considered to be an effective immune booster.

Using at Home
When dried, organic whole marjoram holds its flavor and aroma much better than other herbs. It should be stored in an airtight jar away from light to keep it at its best.
