HistoryRosemary is a native to the area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea where it has long been a pivotal part of their food culture.
Rosemary takes its name from the Latin words rosmarinus officinalis meaning "Dew of the Sea." Legend has it that Rosemary was draped around the Greek goddess Aphrodite when she arose from the sea, hence the name.
Rosemary has long been associated with remembrance of those passed on. The universal tradition of laying sprigs of rosemary around coffins or tombstones dates back to ancient Egypt.
The Greek wore wreaths of rosemary around their heads to improve their memory when taking exams.
Though it has slowly become less romanticized the herb has continued global fame in the edible realm.
